Club 720 — May 2002
This might not be a new experience for all of us (I think Janelle goes salsa dancing there), but I would like to check it out. I walked past it every day when I worked at Superior Street, and decided I needed to go there someday. They have four floors(!) with different types of dancing (hip-hop, salsa, merengue, rock, house, and pop), so we should be able to find something that tickles our ass bones. Plus, they have a great view of the city from the top floor. Excelsior!
Here’s the deets:
- Club 720: 720 N. Wells (at Superior)
- Saturday, May 11
- Gather at Diversey 8:30pm
- Head over around 9:30pm
- CTA Access: Brown Line Chicago stop
- Admission: $5-10
- Open until 5am
Here's the Club 720 web site. They offer complimentary admission coupons, but you have to sign up for their email list.
Metromix description:
Club 720 offers a combination of posh lounge and bar (first floor), high-energy dance and people-watching (third/fourth floors), games area (second floor) and underground club (the basement). Highlights include art deco furnishings; the classic Catacombs in the basement; six billiards tables; video monitors on each floor showing everything from cheesy videos to C-Span; the Show Lounge on the "4-1/2 floor" with a bar, deejay booth and lounge setting; and, below that, the Cityscape dance room's wall of windows that provides a jaw-dropping skyline view of nighttime Chicago.
Dressed down or up, college students to senior citizens, the Club 720 crowd is always ready to par-tee. But don't get too lax, the club discourages jeans and gym shoes. Everyone here also appears to be friendly—and can you believe it—even the doormen! According to owner Edward Tunney, this is the vibe he wants—a lively, unpretentious spot where people can just be people. In fact, this is the only upscale nightclub that doesn't have a VIP room. Hmmm, makes you think.
Hmmm…makes me think I want to go there. This Saturday. Hope you can make it.
