Judge Sets the Record Straight
Both ASGossip and The Daily Northwestern reported yesterday that Election Judges made a ruling that Election Commissioners could endorse candidates (after the Gurkoff/Bass scandal). Apparently, there was some confusion over who said what. Fortunately, our friendly Judge offers some insight on the situation:
I would like to set the record straight. I am an Election Judge. Check it out if you want. We did not rule that Election Commissioners could support a candidate. We checked our ASG constitution which you can do on the web if you’re interested and found out that the Constitution or Bylaws say nothing about whether or not a commisioner can support a candidate. We then checked the Election Rules, nothing mentioned there either. So we then stated—and you can look on the outside board of [Norris] 3G— that it is not within the Election Judicial Perview whether or not a commisioner can support a candidate. It is Senate’s responsibility to decide that. And so we ruled on nothing, the Daily got it wrong and so did Ms. Chastity.
