Petition Circulates to Overturn Invalid Ruling

At this point, it seems kind of worthless, but there’s been a petition floating around to overturn the election judge’s “invalid” ruling of last Tuesday’s elections. Just thought y’all should know.

Article IV, Section 2 of the ASG Constitution says:

Any member of the committee found by the Senate to have offered or granted any preferential treatment to any candidate, shall be removed as a member of the committee, either by a unanimous vote of the remaining members of the committee or by a majority vote of the Senate, and shall be prohibited from serving on the Executive Board for two years. Any candidate found by the EJC to have solicited preferential treatment shall be removed from the ballot and prohibited from serving on the Executive Board for two years. Such solicitation shall be considered an impeachable offense.

Given the circumstantial evidence that would suggest such a violation of the constitution, it is the right of constituents to call for the impeachment of any ASG Executive Board Member responsible in the decision to nullify elections, as well as any Election Judicial Committee member. Given yesterday’s suspiciously convenient realization that suspending bylaws is out of order, there seems to be an impeachable disregard for rules until they threaten the agenda of those who are elected and appointed to represent the undgraduates of Northwestern University.

Therefore, we the undersigned petition the Associated Student Government Senate to immediately amend the bylaws and validate the election results of the Tuesday, April 14, 1998 election; and remove from office the current ASG Executive Board and all committees responsible for the corruption of officials surrounding Tuesday’s nullification.
