Fifth-Year Senior Makes Endorsements
Karl-Dieter Crisman, a fifth-year senior and candidate for Academic VP in last year’s elections, offers his wise words of experience.
Dear ASGossip and Daily Northwestern,
I know it’s late in the campaign and I’m not sure how either of you run such letters, but here’s my two cents worth on the campaign.
There are still a few of us who remember Nick Siebers, the “joke” candidate who won a runoff he made as a write-in. He ran on a platform of bringing the Dead to Dyche and partying hard. Guess what? He was a decent president despite his inexperience.
Evil Dave Sheldon combines experience with that kind of iconoclasm that ASG needs today. It may be a risky vote; he claims that his plans if elected are top secret. But Evil’s long, unseen ASG work makes him a solid choice, even without attack deer.
Only the really ancient remember Alix Rosenthal’s huge campaign. She sent every person on campus an email solicitation and later resigned due to a forged Kinko’s slip. But despite what some may say, even without a great platform she was a decent president.
Karyn Bass, despite some old rhetoric, cares passionately about the issues; she has proven experience and solid ideas. Her violations, true or not, don’t detract from her heart for a deep platform.
No candidate is perfect; but although Evil might have trouble getting Bienen to listen for a bit and Karyn slips into the insiders’ black hole occasionally, a vote for either is a vote for a good student government. Just keep them accountable (a foreign concept to our apathetic campus, I know) and help ASG become useful. I care, and I speak from experience.
Sincerely,
Karl-Dieter Crisman
